Design Derby, Design Museum Gent
23 October 2015 – 13 March 2016
“An engaging and enlightening picture of Dutch and Belgian design”
The New York Times – 29.06.2015
We are delighted that our favourite Dutch designer, Tord Boontje has been chosen to represent his country in the Gent Museum’s Design Derby, and the object showing is our own Sunny Forest table.
Design Museum Gent is collaborating with Museum Boijmans van Beuningen Rotterdam to present an overview of 200 years of design from Belgium and the Netherlands. About 500 design objects, ranging from intricately engraved silver, glassware and ceramics to contemporary furniture, fashion and graphic design, are exhibited in chronological order and in parallel.
WHO WILL WIN? OR WILL THIS ‘DESIGN DERBY’ END IN A DEAD HEAT?
The best designers and designs from both countries, spanning two centuries, are hanging side by side and facing one another. From the elegance of Belgian Art Nouveau to the more streamlined Dutch variant and from Belgium’s sophisticated craftsmanship to the Netherlands’ more conceptual design.
