Kulm Hotel

Perched above Lake St. Moritz in the heart of the Swiss Engadin, Kulm Hotel has defined the art of winter hospitality for over 165 years.

It is a hotel that has always understood the beauty in timelessness and considered detail. Porta Romana was honoured to contribute to its history, supplying an extensive collection of lighting throughout interiors conceived by designers; Pierre-Yves Rochon, whose Parisian studio has shaped some of the world's most celebrated hotel interiors; and Luke Edward Hall, whose restaurant Amaru brought an entirely new world into the heart of the hotel.

The specification is broad and deeply considered. Eighteen Large Nash lamps, six Small Nash lamps and approximately twenty Cross Arm wall lights, selected to complement Rochon's signature blend of classical and contemporary. The commission also includes twelve Sybil lamps in Stone and a custom Azure finish, carefully matched to Sybils previously installed at the hotel.

In Amaru, Hall's eclectic, theatrical vision finds three equally characterful companions in our Two Tier Compton ceiling lights. Their hand-finished cups casting a gentle glow upward into the vaulted ceiling, hand painted with Engadin wildflowers. The Compton’s are perfectly at home in the space designed to transport its guests somewhere more fantastical.

We are delighted to see our pieces so thoroughly involved one of Europe's most iconic alpine hotels, and to have played a part in spaces of such ambition and beauty.
