GLASS

- Gently dust or buff using a soft, dry, lint-free cloth

- Mirror glass can be treated with a proprietary cleaner

- Apply glass cleaner to the cloth, rather than directly to the lamp or furniture to avoid overspray that may damage surrounding finishes

DESIGNER'S NOTE

Porta Romana blown glass products are individually made and so
subject to variance in shape, colour, size, and air bubbles in each lamp. These variances are part of the handcrafted process and intrinsic to the design. Antiqued mirror glass is a hand applied finish which will naturally vary from product to product.

CERAMIC

- Gently dust or buff using a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. This applies to
both bisque and glazed ceramics

- More stubbon marks can be cleaned with a damp cloth

- Never use abrasive cleaner

CAST COMPOSITE, JESMONITE AND ORGANIC COMPOUND

- Gently dust or buff using a soft, dry, lint-free cloth

- Do not use any cleaning products or micro fibre cloths

- Do not rub, touch excessively or use any abrasive materials

CANE AND BAMBOO

- Gently dust using a soft, dry, lint-free cloth

- Do not use liquids to clean

- Avoid exposure to moisture or wet conditions

- Cane and bamboo are natural materials and may vary in tone from
product to product

PAINTED & GILDED FINISHES

- Gently dust using a soft, dry, lint-free cloth

- Do not use any cleaning products or micro fibre cloths

- Do not rub or touch excessively or use

PERSPEX

any abrasive materials.
- Gently dust or buff using a soft, dry, lint-free cloth

- A damp cloth can be used if required, followed by a buff with a dry cloth

- Do not use cleaning products or micro fibre cloths

SLATE

- To maintain the appearance of the slate a damp cloth can be used
on marks and spills or a small quantity of white spirit for more stubborn stains

- The natural slate used in our products may have charming irregularities where the natural mineral

NICKEL

- Periodically clean the piece with light use of a proprietary silver cloth

PATINATED BRASS

Our patinated brass finishes are chemically aged and often finished with a layer of wax or lacquer. Finishes are either brushed or polished.

Specialist brass finishes can, if handled incorrectly, result in uneven patination and we recommend the white gloves included with the product are used for installation and subsequent handling.

- Ensure white gloves are used throughout the cleaning process, as the acid in skin can cause damage to the finish

- Gently dust using a soft, dry, lint-free cloth, rubbing gently in the direction of the patina

- Do not use any cleaning products

- Do not use abrasive cloths or cleaners as this may scratch or damage the finish

- Environmental conditions can have a significant affect on the stability of surface finishes. Pollution, high humidity and sea air may well cause a finish to deteriorate prematurely

- Brass is a ‘living finish’, and will patina over time, this does not affect the structural integrity of the fixture

PATINATED GUNMETAL

- Gently dust or buff using a soft, dry, lint-free cloth

- A damp cloth can be used if required, followed by a buff with a
dry cloth

- Do not use cleaning products or micro fibre cloths.

CAST BRONZE

- Gently dust or buff using a soft, dry, lint-free cloth

- Do not use any cleaning products

- Scourers or abrasives are particularly damaging

DESIGNER'S NOTE
Cast bronze pieces are treated with a patina that gives each product its distinctive colour.

LEATHER

- Gently dust or buff using a soft, dry, lint-free cloth

- Leather restorer can be used on marks or scratches. Test on an inconspicuous area first

- Please be aware that if the leather is exposed to direct sunlight the colour and shine will fade

- Do not place leather items next to a radiator or other heat source

- Avoid exposure to moisture or wet conditions

DESIGNER'S NOTE
Each hide reacts differently to the dyes used

LAMPSHADES

- Lightly dust with a dry, lint-free cloth or soft brush

- Heavy staining on our natural fabrics usually cannot be cleaned.

- Use of a gentle hoover can be a very successful way to dust a shade

- Keep out of direct sunlight, as our shades are produced from natural fabrics so may fade.

FURNITURE

- Porta Romana furniture is hand-polished or hand-painted and lacquered. Special care and attention is required to retain their finish and quality

- If your furniture is destined for an area where it will receive heavy wear, then we are able to provide a quote for a protective glass top

- Avoid using rubber protective covers

- Where furniture items are listed as requiring wall fixing, the wall fixing brackets are included as part of the design of the product

- Consoles which are fixed to the wall are not designed to bear an unreasonable weight and care must be taken to distribute any load evenly

- Furniture should not be placed in direct sunlight or have hot or cold items directly on the surfaces

- Items on the surface of the furniture should not be dragged directly across the surface. The furniture itself must always be lifted clear of the floor when moving

LACQUERED TOPS: WOOD FINISHES, FAUX CONCRETE AND FAUX LIMESTONE

- Lacquered tops can be wiped with a damp cloth but must be dried off thoroughly straight away

- Lacquered tops can be cleaned and treated with a silicone free, unscented, furniture polish

- Avoid using abrasive cleaners, silicon-based product or hard wax which will be harmful to the finish and may affect the sheen level

- Always avoid spraying polish directly on the furniture and spray onto a cleaning cloth

- Any spills should be blotted immediately, avoid using a wiping or buffing motion

- Use a soft cloth, or if necessary, a damp cloth with a mild detergent

- Never use cleaning products that contain abrasives, acids, or bleach as these will affect the surface

- Always blot and wipe off any spills that might stain, such as red wine, balsamic vinegar, lemon juice, oil, tea, or coffee straight away to prevent the stain being absorbed by the stone

- We recommend using coasters under glasses, cups, china and any other objects that may damage the surface

- We treat our marble table tops with a sealant which provides a level of protection from spills and stains

- As stone is a natural material, markings and colour will vary

- We recommend that stained stone be professionally cleaned by a stone cleaner or a refinisher

UPHOLSTERED FURNITURE

All upholstered furniture is supplied with a schedule 3 interliner. Upholstery fabric supplied to Porta Romana must be either 75% natural fibre, cotton, flax, viscose, modal, silk, wool or be appropriately fireproofed to comply with The Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988.

Protect your furniture by avoiding direct sunlight and rotating reversible cushions at regular intervals. To keep your sofa cushions in good shape, vacuum them weekly on a low suction setting to remove any dust particles that may damage the structure of
the fabric.
