British Made

Craftspeople are at the heart of Porta Romana and we’re fortunate enough to work with exceptional artists and makers from across the British Isles.

Every glassblower, ceramicist, metalworker or sculptor we collaborate with, brings their expert knowledge and craft to the fabrication of our designs, imprinting each one with a unique character.

In nurturing our relationships with both established and emerging British artisans, we work tirelessly to retain local production wherever possible. This is an important part of our ethos, and ensures these skilled traditions are nurtured and upheld for future generations.

Playful and striking, the Perez lamp is hand-blown in the shape of a traditional jelly mould by British glassblower, Adam Aaronson. Defined by its irregular ribbed edges and spotty appearance.

The creation of the Perez lamp utilises centuries-old traditional glass blowing techniques that are still used to this day. Once the shaping and forming process is in motion, the Perez is rolled in glass chips leftover from the making of our Auden lamp, ensuring nothing goes to waste. It’s these glass chips that create the spotted flecks unique to the piece.

Our Makers

By working closely with our local makers, we’re able to understand each part of their production process firsthand. We can input at every stage of making, bridging the gap from sketch to finished product.
