Responsible Design

We take sustainability as seriously as we take our craft. From how a product is made, what it is made from and how it gets to you, we are striving to put as much thought into its environmental impact as we do its design.

We are making fundamental changes to reduce the impact we have on our planet. There's still a long way to go, but we are building towards a more sustainable future.

Made the right way

Our commitment to British Made goes hand in hand with our sustainability goals, meaning we’re able to make 80% of our range no more than 45 miles from our Farnham head office. On the occasion that we do import from overseas, we reduce our impact by shipping instead of air freighting, and we offset our emissions by making donations to UN Carbon Offset Platform projects, chosen by our team.

Future change

We’ve made a lot of big changes as we move to becoming a more sustainable company. But we think it’s right to highlight where we can still improve and, importantly, what we plan to do about it. This means championing sustainable materials, re-engineering our packaging, and encouraging sustainable practices within our business and the wider industry. Only by looking ruthlessly at our business can we then honestly say we take sustainability as seriously as we take our craft.

Porta Romana x Tala Bulbs

We have created our own lightbulbs in partnership with Tala, the makers of superior and sustainable LED bulbs, which have a lifespan of around 30,000 hours. That means that if used for 8 hours a day, they will last around 10 years.

Tala bulbs are supplied and included in the cost of all our products. They have a high Colour Rendering Index (CRI) of 95, matching the quality of lighting used in galleries. What’s more, we’ve created our own colour temperature to perfectly complement our pieces.
